Copernicus quality assurance & quality control
European Environment Agency (EEA) – Copernicus quality assurance & quality control
Copernicus is the European Programme for the establishment of a European capacity for Earth Observation. The EEA has been delegated with the implementation of the pan-European, local and in-situ components of the Copernicus Land monitoring service. The objective of the Copernicus land monitoring service is to provide users in the field of environment and other terrestrial applications with information based on space data combined with other sources. It addresses a wide range of policies such as environment, agriculture, regional development, transport and energy at EU level, and European commitments to International Conventions.
space4environment is supporting the EEA and Copernicus activities through the provision of quality assurance services for a range of land related products: Urban Atlas, Riparian Zones, mapping of Natura2000 grassland areas, high resolution layers on temporary (“wetlands”) and permanent water bodies and degree of imperviousness. By developing and performing semantic, technical and qualitative control workflows the quality and consistency of these products is ensured.
Besides that, space4environment is supporting the EEA in the development of new Copernicus product specifications and contributes via the EIONET in-situ working group to unlocking access barriers to relevant information held at national and institutional level.
As a member of the CLC Technical Team, space4environment is supporting the capacity building (i.e. EEA member countries, West Balkan and European Neighbourhood Instrument countries), training, project implementation and quality assurance. In 2018 space4enviroment coordinated the successful and timely implementation of CLC in 11 European countries, including Luxembourg and the West Balkan countries.
